Adjusting to Change
Change is inevitable and sometimes difficult to adjust to but not always. Day flows into night and we adjust to this without giving much conscious thought to it, our daily habits being part of what makes up the day. A change in job, retirement or illness changes those habits and takes some time to get use to. We adjust to the change in seasons. Depending on where we live we put away our warmer, heavier clothes and bring out our lighter and cooler clothing. The transitional time between the seasons can be tricky as the weather fluctuates between cold and snow to rain, sun and warmth. But we adjust and accept that is how it is. There are other changes although they may be normal are harder to adapt to. The slowing down that happens as we age, perhaps not all that much but enough for us to notice. And sometimes we fail to notice until it seems suddenly we have no choice to recognize those changes. Not always in a terrible kind a way but does cause us to act. This happened to me recently. I had my eyes tested and was told I need progressive eyewear, I had resisted a few months ago but in doing so I put a lot of strain on my right eye due to a cataract on my left one. Adjusting to the progressive eyewear has been a process. Not everyone has the problems I experienced - dizziness, headache and nausea which thankfully has now eased but some do. It is at such times it is important to be patient and for me to rest my eyes a few times throughout the day. I am grateful that I have options. If the progressive lens continues to be a problem I can change to bifocals and sometime over the next few months I will have the cataract removed and another adjustment will be required. That is how it goes. The ebb and flow of life, constantly changing. We can either go with it or resist only to find that resistance is futile. The choice is ours. Picture taken and written by T.C
